Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1L
Glenfarclas is considered by many to be one of the finest distilleries in Speyside. It has been in the hands of the Grant family since 1865, making it one of the oldest family-owned distillers in Scotland. Its direct-fired stills produce a heavy single malt that is almost exclusively matured in Jerez sherry casks. The distillery focuses on single malt over blends, and a cool microclimate around the distillery that means that their casks are particularly stingy to the “angels,” resulting in an incredible depth of stock.
Glenfarclas also feel they share some credit for the modern day love of cask strength whisky, introducing this acclaimed 105 proof expressions back in 1968.
A smooth but potent single malt, the Glenfarclas 105 is surprisingly easy-drinking for a cask-strength whisky. Sweet and rich, this one is best sampled with a drop of water to unlock the flavours.
Nose: Complex, oaky, apples and pears, and a tempting dark toffee sweetness.
Taste: Dry and assertive, develops quickly to reveal a rich spiciness, combined with a hint of oak and sherried fruit.
Finish: Amazingly smooth for the strength, wonderfully warming and with a lingering smokiness, yet very rounded.
